About Us

A community rooted in care, collaboration, and purpose.

Sol Playschool was created as a community-centered project grounded in the belief that high-quality early childhood education grows through collaboration, shared responsibility, and deep respect for childhood. Our work is guided by a commitment to nurture the whole child and to build meaningful relationships with families, educators, and the wider community.

Rather than being shaped by a single voice, Sol Playschool is the result of collective effort. Educators, consultants, staff, and community partners all contribute to a shared vision supporting children’s curiosity, well-being, and sense of belonging through thoughtful, intentional practice.

Our Mission

Our mission is to nurture capable, compassionate, and resilient children who trust themselves, care for others, and engage with the world with confidence and curiosity.

Our Philosophy

A community rooted in care, collaboration, and purpose.

At Sol Playschool, we honor childhood by nurturing the whole child-mind, body, heart, and imagination. Our educational approach is emergent, play-based, and deeply connected to nature, allowing learning to unfold through open-ended, self-directed play and meaningful everyday experiences. We create space for curiosity, movement, and discovery, supporting confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.

Our philosophy is inspired by Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and contemporary research on play-based learning. From Montessori, we embrace respect for the child, independence, hands-on exploration, and thoughtfully prepared environments. From Reggio Emilia, influenced by the work of Loris Malaguzzi, we view children as capable, curious learners and recognize the environment as a powerful teacher. Learning grows from children’s interests, questions, and discoveries, guided by attentive educators.

Play is the foundation of learning at Sol. Guided by the research of Peter Gray, we value self-directed play as essential for creativity, problem-solving, emotional resilience, and intrinsic motivation. Through play, children build relationships, express ideas, and make sense of the world around them.

Nature is an essential part of daily life at Sol Playschool. Extended outdoor experiences support movement, sensory exploration, healthy risk-taking, and a deep connection to the natural world. As a bilingual program, language is naturally woven into play, routines, music, and storytelling. Families are valued as partners and honored as children’s first teachers.

Our Commitment

Sol Playschool exists through connection to children, to families, to educators, and to the community. We believe education is strongest when it is collaborative, intentional, and grounded in care. Every decision we make, from the classroom to the garden to the shared spaces in between, is guided by our mission and by respect for the children we serve.

Our Team

At Sol Playschool, we are a team of passionate educators who work collaboratively and creatively. Every role within our program is important and connected teachers, support staff, consultants, and administrators work together with a shared purpose rooted in our mission and in care for children.

We see ourselves as an innovative learning community, where reflection, collaboration, and continuous growth are part of daily practice. Educators are supported, trusted, and encouraged.

Our Founder

Sol Playschool was founded by Silvia Arnoso, an educator whose relationship with childhood, nature, and learning has shaped both her personal and professional journey. Her understanding of education grew from lived experience,an early childhood spent near the sea, grounded in free play, time outdoors, and shared moments with other children, experiences that fostered a deep appreciation for exploration, creativity, and resilience.

“A childhood with space to explore, grounded in nature and trust, nurtures resilience and curiosity.”

Throughout her career, Silvia has remained closely connected to children and learning communities. She has worked in classrooms and community-based settings, collaborated closely with families, supported and guided educators, and helped create meaningful learning environments, including school gardens and projects that bring books and stories into children’s everyday spaces.

Beyond the school setting, Silvia has also created community-based free-play gatherings that invite families to connect through open-ended play and shared outdoor experiences, reflecting her belief in play as a foundation for connection and belonging.

At Sol Playschool, Silvia continues to work alongside children and educators, nurturing a school community rooted in relationship, care, and deep respect for childhood.
